It’s hard to remember historical moments in context. Eras take on a hazy pleasant glow when they are in the rearview mirror. Even the negative ones.
Although nothing is really the way we remember it I think there are certain undeniable deviations to this rule.
My dad heard Elvis and said it was like nothing before. I believe him.
My mom saw the Beatles and said it was like nothing before. And I believe her.
I will say for the record that putting the needle onto the vinyl for the first time in 1978 and having “Eruption” burn the speakers down was a surefire way to have your teen mind blown. It was like nothing before.
I was there and the original Van Halen ….shit ….once in a lifetime.
